There's a new animated cartoon on Google (www.google.com) today to celebrate Thanksgiving. In it, the second "o" in "Google" is a turkey, and when he realizes that it's Thanksgiving, he looks around and gulps, then holds up a picture of himself and dons a disguise (hat, sunglasses, suitcase) so nobody will recognize him and have him as their main course.

Here's a link to Google's explanation of the doodle: https://www.google.com/doodles/thanksgiving-2017.

Today, Google (http://www.google.com) is celebrating the winter solstice (first day of winter and shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere) with another animated cartoon. In it, a cute little mouse leaves his underground house to go ice skating. When he returns home, he's covered with snow and looks like a giant snowball. After shaking off the snow, he goes back outside and skates some more.

There is a new animated Doodle on Google (http://www.google.com) today to celebrate Fred Rogers, who had a children's television show (called Mister Rogers' Neighborhood) for 51 years.

The "Celebrating Mister Rogers" video on the Google home page doesn't work on all computers, so if you need an alternate link, here it is:

If you want to see a behind-the-scenes video from the Mister Rogers Doodle Team regarding creation of the Doodle, click here:

And you'll find written background information about Mister Rogers, including links to both of the above videos, here:

Today is the Fall Equinox 2018 (Northern Hemisphere), or first day of autumn in the United States and elsewhere throughout the world, so there's another new animated cartoon on Google (www.google.com) to celebrate it. During this time, the sun is directly over the equator, and night and day are almost exactly equal in length.

According to Google, "This year’s seasonal Doodle series protagonist, Quinn [a stick figure with a head that looks like an acorn], curiously follows the path of a falling leaf, waking up a new friend hidden in the deciduous mound [of leaves on the ground]. Surely as the trees begin to turn, many, like Quinn, will find warmth in the company of friends old and new, and fun in the potential of colorful, crunchy leaf piles!" Today, Google (www.google.com) is celebrating their 20th birthday with another animated cartoon. An article written by the Doodle team gives some background information about Google, then says: "Today’s video Doodle takes a stroll down memory lane by exploring popular searches all over the world throughout the last two decades." At the end of the article, they say "thank you" in many different languages.

Today, Google (http://www.google.com) is celebrating Thanksgiving with another animated cartoon. It shows a family of mice sitting down at the table to eat Thanksgiving dinner, but instead of carving a turkey, the father is slicing pieces of cheese.

An article written by the Doodle team gives some background information about Thanksgiving, then says: "Today’s Doodle aims to capture the spirit of the day and hopes to be a grate reminder that blessings can come in all shapes and sizes—even mouse-sized ones!"

Google (http://www.google.com) has a new series of Doodles for the Christmas holidays.

DAY 1 (December 23rd) - Santa and four reindeer (led by Rudolph with his red nose) are ready to go as soon as the elves, who have formed a line and are passing presents to one another (like a bucket brigade or human chain), have filled up the sleigh.

This is what Google wrote about the Day 1 Doodle:

"With his bags packed and reindeers well fed, Santa departs for his adventure around the world. Keep an eye out for a blinking red nose or visit our Santa Tracker to follow along the way.

"Happy Holidays!"

(Source for quote and "Santa Tracker": https://www.google.com/doodles/holidays ... here-day-1)

DAY 2 (December 24th) - The sleigh is parked on top of the "Google" letters, surrounded by the reindeer, who are watching Santa as he drops presents down the chimney on one of the houses in the neighborhood.

This is what Google wrote about the Day 2 Doodle:

"Reported sightings of an unidentified flying object near the North Pole can now be confirmed. Radar scopes are picking up a large jolly blip accompanied by eight tiny blips, and a bright red light has been spotted throughout the polar vortex. Children are advised to be nice, not naughty and remain in bed until further notice. Be advised that this UFO may contain candy canes and good tidings for all!

"Happy Holidays!"

(Source for quote: https://www.google.com/doodles/holidays ... here-day-2)

DAY 3 (December 25th) - After delivering all those presents around the world in record time, everyone is pooped, so they're taking a nap. In this cartoon, Santa and Mrs. Claus are asleep in their rocking chairs in front of the Google letter "l" (which is decorated as a Christmas tree), one reindeer is sound asleep in the sleigh, and another is sleeping on the floor.

This is what Google wrote about the Day 3 Doodle:

"It’s that festive time of year again! Sending along holiday cheer to you & your loved ones during this merry time.

Happy Holidays!"

Google (http://www.google.com) has animated Doodles for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

In the one for New Year's Eve, two purple elephants are getting ready for the celebration. One is blowing up green balloons, and the other is eating popcorn.

This is what Google wrote about their Doodle:

"A mammoth pile of balloons? Check. A ton of party hats? Check. A herd of friends and family ready to countdown? Check. Let the New Year’s Eve festivities commence! At the stroke of midnight, it’s out with the old and in with the new. We’ll sing that song 'Should old acquaintance be forgot,' but there’s no need to worry about our purple friends. Elephants never forget.

"Happy New Year’s Eve!"

(Source for quote: https://www.google.com/doodles/new-years-eve-2018)

In the one for New Year's Day, one of the elephants is jumping up and down on the green balloon and twirling around, and the other is blowing confetti in the form of "2019" out of his (or her) trunk.

About this Doodle, Google wrote:

"Well, it’s time to call out the elephant(s) in the room: it’s out with the old and in with the new! Here’s to a bright year ahead."

Google's cute new animated Doodle (http://www.google.com) was drawn by the "Doodle for Google 2018" winner, 2nd grader Sarah Gomez-Lane, who wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up. In her "Dino Doodle," various types of dinosaurs and a shovel form the "Google" letters, and after you hit "Play" (>), when you click on the animals under each of the blinking "down" arrows, the dinosaurs and shovel "come to life."

About this Doodle, Google wrote:

"Over the last decade, we’ve been privileged to receive hundreds of thousands of submissions for our annual Doodle for Google contest—submissions that reflect the dreams, hopes, and talents of students across the country. For our 10th year, we asked students to respond to the theme 'What inspires me…' and received Doodles depicting everything from a love of family and food to a passion for intergalactic roller coasters!

"Today, we’re thrilled to share the work of our 2018 Doodle for Google winner on the US Google homepage: 2nd grader Sarah Gomez-Lane, who drew delightful dinosaurs to highlight her dream of becoming a paleontologist! We fell in love with Sarah’s rendering of her dinos, and were blown away by her big (you might even say 'dino-sized'!) ambitions for her future, especially at her young age.

"For the first time in Doodle for Google’s 10-year history, Sarah got to collaborate with the Doodle team to transform her artwork into an animated, interactive experience. She also received $30,000 toward a college scholarship, and her elementary school in Falls Church, VA will receive $50,000 to spend on technology to help students like Sarah continue to pursue what inspires them.

"Huge thanks to our talented 2018 winners and everyone else who has shared their creativity with us over the last ten years. From all of us at Google: keep dreaming—and keep doodling!"

Note: The above article includes the link to a video so you can "Go behind-the-scenes of today’s 'Dino Doodle' ... and meet our 2018 Doodle for Google national winner, 2nd grader Sarah Gomez-Lane!"
